Installing from Multiple Upgrades

I plan on rebuilding my system starting from a clean reformat. When I do so, I am going to have a ton of PS upgrades to install (not only for PS, but also for all my other Adobe products). I really do not want to waste the time doing it the install the first full license of PS3, then each and every upgrade since then method. Also, I do not want to have all the old, unnecessary files and garbage on my box. That’s part of the reason for the reformat.

I thought I read somewhere (long ago and far away) that you could simply point it to the old PS exe file on your HD when it asked for the prior ownership verification. This did not work when I tested it with CS2 upgrade.

You also cannot jump too far in the upgrade, ie, PS3 to CS2, due to Adobe licensing changes.

Is there some other way to do an install of my CS2 or must I go through each and every upgrade that I have to finally get to the latest one?

What a long and arduous task this is going to be if there is no shortcut method.

TIA,
Dobermann

No need to install all the others. Just start the CS2 install process and when asked, insert your CS(1) cd to verify.

Unfortunately, that does not work. My CS1 is also an upgrade, so CS2 balks and says it needs a full version cd. My full version CD is vers 3 and I have found I also have a full vers 5.

What does not make sense is the upgrade notice on the boxes. CS1 says it is for vers 7 and below, CS2 says, "a previous version" but upon attempting to install CS2, it says on screen vers 5.5 or higher.

So for me to install my CS2, I am forced to install vers 5, then CS1, then finally CS2. Do this for all the different apps I have from Adobe, and I might as well write off the whole day just for Adobe installations, not to mention all the other garbage that they will install that I do not want on my system.

Thanks,
Dobermann

CS2 should not ‘balk’ at the upgrade CD. I just installed CS2 with a CS upgrade CD, my first version was three and I have no idea where those disks are.

As already pointed out it certainly should work. But lets back up a second. Are you installing suites or stand alones?

Just stand alones, and just so there are no thoughts or wonders, each and every CD I have is a proper Adobe CD, licensed and registered. No pirate BS here.

It let me install my CS2 in "trial" mode with 30 days usage yesterday when I tried it again. I have not rebuilt the box yet until I sort this out.

So ID.Awe, you are sure you were able to install CS2 with a CS upgrade CD?

I wonder if it will let me convert my "trial" to a full license with the CS1 upgrade CD. I will have to give it a go this evening when things quiet down and deadlines have been met.

The only thing I can think of at this moment even though I am trying to install CS2 from an external USB CD/DVD burner drive, maybe when it checks for the prior license it does not look at the external drive, but only the internal. I’ll check into that this evening also to see if the drive makes any difference.

Before I uninstall CS2 "trial" to test these other things, does anyone know if it fails, will I still be able to reinstall and use CS2 in "trial" mode for the balance of the 30 days? I am in the middle of a project with it and do not want to have to go back to vers 5 to finish the project if things go wrong.

Thanks,
Dobermann

He is. And I can verify. Did it myself on a new box not too long ago.

Absolutely not. The 30 day trial will abruptly end as soon as you try to do anything untoward like uninstall/reinstall or change the system clock.

But as we’ve said already – all you need do is install CS2 and when prompted to do so, insert the CS CD for verification of upgrade eligability. It doesn’t matter that the CS was an upgrade itself.

Okay, so here is my plan. I will finish this project, uninstall CS2 "trial", then try again to install using my CS1 upgrade CD, but all install CDs will be in the box’s internal CD bay. If it hiccups, I will take some screen shots and link to them. If it works, then perhaps the internal vs external CD bay may have been the problem. Either way, though, I will post back here.

I tried posting this before but it did not seem to take

Do the install and when it comes to the screen where it want the previous serial number click into the box then do an option enter and a "hidden" box will come up with a 6 digit code.

You can contact adobe at Phone number is 800-833-6687 (US and Canada) I hit option 1 then go thru a song and dance!

They will ask for your old serial number give it to them if you have it if not just tell them you don’t have it. They will then give you a 6 digit response code to type in an you will have a clean install of CS2!
