I know this has to be easy … but I have a jpg picture that is rectangular. I want to make the edges rounded (all four) to soften the picture. How do I do this?
Thanks

You can’t on a jpg. What is the final output going to be? There may be an alternative.

First, Alt-double click on the Background in the Layers palette to make it a real layer.

Using the Rounded Rectangle Shape tool, make a layer above with corners the radius you want. Ctrl-click on that layer in the Layers palette to make it a selection.

Turn off visibility on the Rectangle Shape Layer. Click on the image layer to make it the current layer, and click on the Layer Mask icon on the bottom of the palette to make a Layer Mask. Trash the rounded rectangle layer. Save as psd. You can import that into InDesign.

There are other ways of course, but that may be the easiest.

Place the photo in ID and then use object>corner effects (CS2 or earlier) or Object>corner options (CS3) to get your rounded corners.

Or even cooler…use the feather Windows>Effects>Feather inside of ID to get softedged rounded corners…with a drop shadow none the less…
