In Photoshop Elements, I was able to cycle between the healing brush’s ‘modes’ (normal, replace) by pressing the keyboard shortcut for the healing brush. Thus ‘J’ would select the healing brush, then pressing ‘J’ again, would select the other (normal or replace) mode.

This is not a default shortcut in CS3 and I have not been able to find a way to create it. Is it possible?

Modifying the Keyboard Shortcuts is a simple enough task. Just set J as the shortcut to each of the healing brush submenu options.

From what I can see, there is only an option to set ‘healing brush’ itself as ‘J’. I don’t see an submenu options for the tool.

I’m in "Keyboard Shortcuts/Set: Photoshop Defaults (modified)/ Shortcuts For: Tools". In the "Tool Palette Command" list there are specific tools, such as "Spot Healing Brush Tool", "Healing Brush Tool", "Patch Tool", etc. but I do not see "Healing Brush Tool" submenu. Am I in the wrong place?

Try Shift + [letter of tool] to cycle through the tools in that Toolbox flyout.

Don’t want to be bothered with adding the Shift key?

You can change this in your Photoshop Preferences so that you only need to tap the [letter of tool] key to cycle through a particular tool’s flyout menu.
