Hello,

Does anybody have experience with devices used to
color and gamma calibrate monitors used with photo-
shop?

Which ones did you use and what were the results?

Thank you
GR.

Thanks Theos for the hint re the HP printer.
Info on the HP R90 printer versions can be found at
http://www.wide-format-printers.org/inkjet_printer_reviews_p rice_comparisons_ratings/Hewlett-Packard_DesignJet_90r_HP_90 gp_graphic_designers.htm

There it says that it is the R90gp version which comes
with a calibration device for inkjet paper. This site
was not sure whether the gp printer version also comes
with the ability to calibrate a monitor.

My question however was not directed at printers and
their paper calibration, but at the experience which people might have had with certain monitors and their calibration for use with photoshop.

Thank you
GR.

I use Monaco which may or may not still be available. The results are excellent. I do use a CRT monitor.
Calibrating an LCD monitor requires a different device, etc., but I have no experience with either the
dedicated software or hardware for such things.

I use the Huey Pro on Viewsonic 19" LCD monitor and it seems to work OK. I’ve had several large prints done by a lab & the colors and levels came out pretty well as expected. It’s easy to use and will even compensate automatically for changes in room lighting since you leave the thing plugged in all the time.

However current LCDs are still not as good as CRTs when it comes to photography, although apparently there are some high end models that come close.
