problems with paintbucket

when i try using my paintbucket, nothing happens. do you have any idea what’s wrong?

when i paintbucket on the image, the layer panel just shows a dotted image for a second then disappears and nothing happens to the actual image.

please help.

Could be anything, but start here.

First, realize that the paint bucket works kind of like the magic wand tool. It has settings in the options bar in the top. Make sure Mode is Normal and set the tolerance (see the helpfile if you don’t understand tolerance).

Make sure your image is not in Index Mode (Image|Mode) nor in 16 bit.

If that’s not working for you, create a brand new RGB image and try it just to see.

did. none of it works. and i tried reinstalling twice already.

Sounds like bad PS prefs.

I think thats "Photos(version#).ini" on a PC. Find and delete that file then relaunch PS.

Another way of discarding the preferences file is to hold down Ctrl, Shift, Alt at the beginning of loading Photoshop.
