Printer settings lost in CS3

I recently upgraded from CS to CS3, and I now find that every time I go to print a file, the settings have reverted back to my (default) doccument printer. I print a file, open a second image to print and have to re-enter the printer, paper type, source, etc. Printer is an Epson 4800. Have I missed a setting somewhere to get PS to keep the selected settings?

I did Bob. All I could find was someone else with the same problem, but no solution. If you can post a link to the discussion / solution I’d be grateful.

Hi Vincent:

This is a known “bug” or feature of CS3. The explanation from Adobe is in CS3 they harmonized the printing steps with what has been the norm with Apples. This has upset many windows users. As of now there is nothing but hints that Adobe is working on a fix. It may come as a “bug” fix or it may wait until CS4 comes out. Until then those that can are keeping their older versions on the computer and using it to print with. Others are just learning to live with it. Another option is to use a program like Qimage, a printing program. This is what I use and although the interface is a bit “clunky” it works very well. So I use ACR and Photoshop to fix up my shots, I then save them as PSD’s and open Qimage and print from there. Qimage does have a smaller disk “foot print” than leaving a earlier version of Photoshop on the disk with CS3. Not the answer anyone is looking for but I think the best we have for awhile.

There was also a pretty extensive thread on this forum a while back.

In the mean time, if you have several images to print that are going to use the same paper/size/settings, you can set those printing parameters in the Windows Printer/Fax area and make that your default printer.

Yes, I know that’s a pain — which is why I’ve been going back to CS2 to print. But there’s a fix in the making…

Isn’t is possible to define your print output in an action? Then, you could call up your action with your preferred output settings (sRGB, 8×10 for instance).

Yeah, we dont need no stinkin’ apple standards on our OS.

I haven’t really tried that, because others have posted that the action stops when you have to get into the printer driver — the printer driver not being part of Photoshop, afterall…
