Photoshop CS3, Vista here. Hello All

I want to do an animated GIF about the height of the average monitor. The entire picture will also have a colored space with much text to the right of the animation.

Question before I start the project: Should I aim to have the entire thing animated, including the text to the right which, of course, will remain static in each frame?

Or is there some way to plunk down the animation, maybe as a layer, onto a background? But then I would have to keep it in PSD format. It needs to be a JPG (or an animated GIF, so all users can see it.

Is there any way to incorporated an animation into a JPG? Probably not. I’ll probably have to animate the whole thing, text included. I think I just answered my own question.

Thanks, I think.

Pete

Not Layers, slices. Make it as one image and slice it using the Slice tool. Have the animation part in one slice (which will be in a table) and the rest in other table(s).

If you have a color and text that can be part of the HTML; not pixels, wh9ch would make everything "lighter" file size wise.

I have to confess I am not sure how easy or hard this would be in CS3. It would be pretty simple in ImageReady or in an HTML editor like GoLive.

Yep the slice tool is your friend here. Create a slice over the text or use Layer>New layer based slices. The latter will generate your slices for you based on the slices. Use the Slice select tool and double click on the slice. Here you can name the slice, give a url if needed. But mostly for my point, you can set the text area slices to no image. Doing so will allow you to edit the text in an html editor instead of photoshop. As this will keep the file size down on your gif image. If you decided to animate the text, then leave the text as an image.

Sliced animations may not run synchronously in browser

Right, but I’m not talking about slicing the animation itself; rather slicing the page so the animation runs in its own cell and the rest is in separate cells.

Nope, though you can have jpg slices and gif slices.

Would a Flash animation be a better idea? It can be much smaller, plus you can have interactivity (being able to stop the animation would be a blessing) and sound.
