I have recently acquired a new printer/scanner (a Dell 1815dn, running under Windows XP, with USB connection), but I am having problems acquiring scans from it in Photoshop.
Photoshop can acquire scans from my other printer/scanner without any problem, and other imaging programs can acquire scans from the new printer/scanner. However, when I try to acquire an image from the Dell 1815dn using Photoshop, although the TWAIN driver interface is called up, it will not communicate with the printer – when I press "Prescan" or "Scan", nothing happens.
After some experimentation, I found that the communication is being blocked by F-Secure (my virus scanner / firewall): if I disable the "Virus and Spy Protection" module (but not the firewall?!?), the TWAIN driver works.
I have spent 2 weeks trying to resolve this matter with F-Secure, but so far they have been no help. (They have suggested a couple of changes to the firewall configuration, but these have had no effect.)
I do not know enough about how the TWAIN driver works interfaces with Photoshop to begin to try modifying the F-Secure’s settings to permit the necessary communication. Can anyone advise me on this?
Many thanks.
Jon
