Hi i would like to ask something about copyright…
Now if i decide to change my name, not entirely, let’s say a letter in my name and then i put that in the copyright
e.g: copyright2007©jon smith, and let’s say my name is John Smith. Will it bring me problems? do i have copyright automatically without registering somewhere? and if my name photographer’s name is slightly different, is it ok too?
Please let me know. Thanks

The creator of any work automatically owns the copyright to that work,. No need to register or put any line on it. I don’t think changing your name has anything to do with it. You are still the same person.

I suggest you look up the law online. Also, check out this video: <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJn_jC4FNDo>

You are still the same person.

Registration is all about proving you are the person. Copyright exists for the creator, as Ed says, but lawsuits are fought over failure to be able to prove such things.

A registered copyright is a matter of safety, but whether it is worth the expense is another point.

And using your legal name makes it easier to make your claim. That way, you don’t have to prove your "Jon" instead of "John".

but why not if you have all the paperwork nice and straight and legal? if it ever came down to it…

BTW also be aware that the law does differ slightly between USA, Australia and the Europe although for the most part it’s the same. Be sure to check locally for the law where you are.
