I hope someone can help. I commonly shoot images as jpegs from my digital camera (saving as raw format rarely), but no matter what format I shoot once I open the file in Photoshop CS2, make my corrections and save, I will be missing some of the EXIF data. I am not using "save for web", but simply "save as" and save over my original file.

Does Photoshop automatically discard some of this, or do I have to change settings someplace. I can not seem to figure out how to do this, and it would be nice to keep all of the original info.

Thanks!

CS3 also does this. I’ve asked this question more than once. It is very frustrating to me, and almost caused me to not purchase CS3. Most photo editing software seems to be going this way. Only way around it seems to be to use the camera manufacturers editing software, which in my case is Nikon, and their software doesn’t come close to CS3 in capabilities.

I’ve whined about this a lot, and people who understand the technical reasons for this will explain it, but it doesn’t ease the frustration. Older versions of Paint Shop Pro, at least version 9.0 before Corel bought the software, kept every bit of the exif data. Now, even Paint Shop Pro trashes the same exif data that CS3 does.

Hopefully, someone will chime in with the technical reasons, but it’s still frustrating. I know Adobe can do something about this.

Why are you saving over the original file? That is not a good idea.

If metadata is in fact being dropped, it is probably the information that was encoded as "maker notes." This data is likely dropped because the image as modified is not the original camera file, and thus should not have maker notes from the original camera manufacturer in it.

That being said, I’m not sure the data is being dropped altogether. In all likelihood, the same data is probably saved in the file in a different form. Have you looked at all the fields in the File Info, including the Advanced page? Click on all the little plus signs to see what’s there.
