I am having a problem with PS7 where I have created a path with several enclosed areas – for eg a smiley face: the circle for the face, two smaller circles for the eyes and one for the mouth. I used to be able to save this as the one path and when I make the path a selection, all the individual paths would be outlined and selected (and effectively it becomes a mask) but now when I make the selection the outside path is selected (i.e. the circle for the face)and I dont get the selections for the eyes or mouth. I was able to do this in PS6 but dont know what I am doing wrong now…Can anyone help?

If they are separate paths, in the Paths Palette, Ctrl+Click the first one, then Shift+Ctrl+Click the others.

If they are all in one path, then I’m not sure what you’re doing wrong because I can’t seem to reproduce the problem here.

Go up to the options menu while the pen tool is selected and the paths are all marquee selected. Make sure that you choose the right-hand most selection box for path type. Re-save the file using save as to save the correction after you make it.

In the future, be sure of the proper path type before drawing with the pen tool.

thank you. I didn’t realise my "exclude overlapping paths" box wasn’t checked
