Hi everybody, have a small problem. I create an CMYK Image und use HKS colors which are predetermined by our corporate identy. But the value I got from PS is different to that from our print office.

PS Value is for HKS 4N
24% mag / 99% yell

The Value from our print office is
10% mag / 100% yell

Why are there some differences and which value should I need. Also the colors apear quite different which seems normal by using different percentage of colors.

Thanks for your help!!!

Carsten,

the CMYK values for HKS depend on the actual CMYK profile (can be easily tested).
You need either a HKS swatchbook including the information about the printing process (e.g. Euroscale Coated) or, much better, the CIELab values. These can be identified by the Color Picker: 84 14 86.
CIELab values describe physical colors, they are device
independent (the same for Euroscale and SWOP in PhS).

IMO HKS 4N is just out of gamut for sRGB, therefore the
color on the screen might look slightly wrong.

Photoshop 7 includes the HKS spot ink colors, not the process equivelents of the spot ink colors (which is what it sounds like your print office is using).

Yes, the spot colors are being converted through your current CMYK profile.

Chris,

my tests were done by PhS6 – seems the HKS’ are already
there by CIELab values.

Gernot – yes, but they were pretty out of date in PS 6.

I updated most of the color books in PS 7.
