Just now getting into digital photography and the software. Question? Which is best/better/ easiest to use, Bridge or lightroom. I have tried the trial version of lightroom but really don’t know how to use it properly. Any suggestions? Thanks

Any suggestions? Practice, practice and practice some more. Could you drive or swim the first time you got into a car or pool?
No?
So, what did you do?
The web is full of tutorials for anything you could possibly conceive of doing with PS.
Best?
Better?
Photoshop! (you never mentioned it)
Bridge is just a file manager/organiser on steroids (no manipulation tools) Not familiar with Lightroom but people I know who do use it, use it in conjunction/suppliment with PS.
If you are really serious then PS is the way to go. (steep learning curve) If money is a problem then look at PS Elements, should be around a tenth of the price of PS.
You are just getting started in digital photography or photography in general?
If you are just starting out in photography, learn about your cameras controls and what they do, how the different settings affect the final image. Wear the print off the handbook, look at photos you like and try and work out how they were taken and "copy" them.
Learn how to get the image you want without resorting to manipulation techniques (the most I use PS for these days is cropping, making the ladies look like they think they look (can’t do that "in camera")and some restoration work)
Again, it’s practice cubed. There are no magic shortcuts but you will enjoy every minute of it.
If you get stuck, you can always ask here.

Lightroom is really aimed at photographers who expose large number of images identically and need to apply basic manipulations to many images simultaneously. Think studio based photographers who have large numbers of optimally exposed images created in a single session under controlled conditions.
I do not think Lightroom is the right tool for advanced amateurs. Bridge is part of CS3 and much of what you can do in Lightroom to organize images can be done in Bridge.
If you are a serious amateur then only CS3 will do, although I have not seen Elements since about version 3.
The easiest way to grasp Photoshop basics is via video tutorials. After that books, like Scott Kelby’s recent guide to CS3, are much easier to understand and follow.
