Hi. Im new to Photoshop and just starting to get the hang of things. An old friend had a filter that I am REALLY interested in but I can not seem to find it, or anything similar. The filter or plugin changed the "color" of the picture. It ranged from black/white to a burnt looking picture to looking like everything was in a cloud/ bright light/ dim light/ the list goes on. I can’t seem to find anything that does this. Can anyone help?

try adjustment layers. use hue saturation. play with the sliders, and the "colorize" check box.

here’s a directory of photoshop plugins… maybe you can find the one you’re looking for in there…

No plug-in required, try Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation. A dialog box will pop up that has basically three sliders. The saturation slider will do what you are looking for. However, use it with moderation! Over-saturated photos will look terrible. And for de-saturating, or actually black-and-white conversion, there are better methods.

No plug-in required, try Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation.

nobody reads post #1!!! πŸ™‚

the reason to do this with an adjustment layer instead of straight from the menu is you can achieve the same effect as with image>adj>hue/sat, but you gain the advantage of being able to tweak the adjustment later if you decide you need to.

Dave,

Amy asked how to change saturation, and you try to tell her something about adjustment layers. While your answer is perfectly correct technically, it still was more confusing than helpful I’m afraid. Let her do the first step before the second.

If she learns Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation, she will then have to un-learn it to get the very big benefits of doing it with an adjustment layer.

The sequence Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation is no more complex.

It’s best to get into good habits early!
