Photoshop CS3 won’t boot

I just installed PS CS3. Before the installation, I removed PS CS2. The installation process went well, without any error messages. I went as far as activating the product and the registration. But I can’t use it. It crashes while booting. I get this error message:

"Photoshop CS3 has encountered a problem and needs to be closed".

I removed the program from the computer, reinstalled, but the problem persists. I deleted the pref. file, to no avail. I don’t know what to do next. It is indeed very disappointing and frustrating. Never happened before.

I’m running Windows XP, service Pack 2. I updated the video driver recently, as well as Direct X.

Any suggestions?

First suggestion is – never remove an earlier version until the later version is working to your satisfaction.

How did you upgrade if CS2 was not present?

Where did you buy CS3?

If it is a legitimate copy, you can get free help from Adobe Customer Support because this is an installation problem. There are several reasons why you are getting this message.

Thanks for the suggestions.

It’s a downloaded version I bought from Adobe site. It’s a legitimate copy. I also run Indesign and Lightroom, all legal, of course.

When I installed CS3, I was prompt to introduce CS2 serial number, which I did.

Mind boggling.

I’ll call them.

After 3 reinstalls and countless hours of search, I found out that the culprit was a missing font: Tahoma. Uf!
