Thanks, Dave – that was better than any of the verbose online tests I have waded through. I’m starting to cuss out loud now at my
3GHz P4HT/2GB RAM machine along with regularly bashing the desk, which means that I feel an upgrade coming on (before I actually
start kicking the machine itself or break my wrist and/or the desk).
In the absence of anything anywhere that actually succinctly explains how much faster 2.4GHz dual core with modern FSB and caching
architecture is than a P4 with a faster clock speed, I’ll go with your test report.
"Scream" and "blown away" is good enough for me. Now to save up the cash……
Personally I’m waiting for Intel’s Nehalem chips before upgrading my 3.6GHz P4, which will be the first Intel CPUs with an integrated memory controller. They’re due sometime late in ’08 or early ’09. They also will incorporate multi-threading (similar to the P4’s hyperthreading) on top of multiple core processing.
The chips will be on Intel’s 45nm process, they will easily overclock to 4GHz and well beyond.
Vrrrrrroooooooommmmmmmmmm.
