Hi All

I’m scanning photograghs while in ps7,4 per scan and occasionally one of the photos moves while closing the lid on the scanner. It ends up slightly tilted (not pararel) to the glass edge of scanner.I then use the marquee tool to select one of the 4 photographs to copy into ram, create new pic and then paste. When I try to rotate the marquee to "line-up" with the photo, the whole page rotates also!!! How do I adjust the marquee only???

Thanks

Paul

Try a different approach.

Move the ‘cocked’ picture to a new layer, straighten, then merge. Like this:
Use any selection tool to pick the bad picture.
Then Layer/New/Via Cut
This separates the picture onto a new layer.
Position a guide line along the longest ‘cocked’ line.
This is your "straight" reference.
Then Edit/Transform/Rotate and twist the picture into alignment. Accept
Layer/Flatten Image
Done
OR
Use the Measure tool to find the ‘angular’ offset
How many degrees out of square.
Then Edit/Transform/Rotate/Direct Enter the angle.
Layer/Flatten Image
Done

You have to use the crop tool. Make a crop selection and then move your cursor to one of the corners where it changes into a handle to rotate the crop. You can also adjust the size.

It’s not necessary to rotate the marquee.

Select an area a little larger than the crooked image including some unwanted white space. Copy and paste to a new blank image.

Using the measure tool measure along the top of the photo and then choose image, rotate canvas (arbitrary). You’ll notice PS has filled in the correct angle and direction of rotation with data from the measurement you made. Click OK to complete the rotation and you can then trim the unwanted white space from the new image using image, trim.

if you want to rotate your marquee selection, first make a selection about the size that it should be, then press ‘q’ which takes you into quick mask mode, then press ctrl+t to give you your free transform bounding box, now rotate and scale to your desire. when finished press enter to commit changes, and press q to go out of quick mask mode, and there ya go

This appears the only usable answer. Crop.
Undo with the history pallette to restore the full scan plate after getting the selection.
