4band RGBN image manipulation

I have a 4 band image. My goal is to be able to manipulate the 4 bands at once. Also would like to clone and cut and paste imagery from another 4 band image into the original image. The 4 bands image is a RGBN the N being a near infrared layer. Anyone have experience with the 4 bands ? Thanks
