John, it’s been a nightmare, truly. I’ve been computing since 1983 and have never had such an extended run of mondo crapola to wade through.
I agree, shouldn’t have to go through this, in my naive world, you should be able to run install and have the program work, simple as that. And to spend 3 hours with an Adobe techie, who was very nice but clearly reading from the same script I could download from the adobe site, does not help.
Shouldn’t techies, when confronted with install problems, and no solutions working, know to say "hey, did you have antivirus installed and running in the background when you installed?"
Otherwise, my system seems very robust, but I’ve been through more than I care too. Makes me wax philosophic about the hyper complexity of modern life…who needs to spend two months trying to get a dual boot set up to run right, installing OS’s six times etc., and still having tons of lost emails, backup programs that don’t backup even though you meticulously follow all instructions…it’s just kind of stupid.
End of rant, sorry.
ID, thanks, I’ll check that program out. Acronis just won’t install, though it seemed to work fine on XP…but the restore didn’t work even from the boot disk…as I think I said above, went through 75% of the restore, 4 hours…then it kluged. Makes you lack trust in software, imagine that?
Thanks again for the help.
