Suddenly, when I try to open Photoshop CS3 from a desktop icon, I get a message indicated that the "licensing subsystem has failed catastrophically" If I use Start-Programs-Photoshop CS3 it starts fine. Any suggestions?

Different user account? Icon properties messed up?

You don’t mention the OS.

There was, (quite some time ago) a problem with licensing. It was corrected by a forum member (forget who), that found out he had to turn FLexnet licensing on in Services.

This may or may not help you ( I would suspect not) because you can start PS one way (but not the other).

However, it is worth a shot (to at least look at Services for Flexnet). If it is Disabled, then enable and start this service.

If it is disabled, I would bet that this is your problem (even though I cannot determine why starting PS works one way and not the other>
