Do any of you use a font manager with your Photoshop instalation?

I’m setting up a new PC and this time, instead of just installing hundreds of fonts onto my machine, I thought it might be prudent to check out some type of font management, with the aim of not reducing the efficiency of a nice clean install. It seems I have 744 font files to install, a mixture of Type 1, Open Type and True Type fonts…

I have checked out the Extensis product, but its USD100, and another company’s product for half that price, so it seems there is a big difference in price. I thought I would check out whether any Ps users have any experience/recommendations. I use Photoshop and InDesign.

FontAgent Pro and Font Explorer run circles around Suitcase.

you may prefer Font Explorer as it is free.

They still do not have the final release available for Windows.

No, I just discovered that! What a shame. Is the beta release that is still available from other websites, I assume, stable?

It appears that FontAgent Pro is a mac application.

Linotype FontExplorer is trouble free for me. I stopped using the manager I had before.

What I actually do is have a separate partition for my fonts, I can add fonts in Windows with ‘Copy Fonts’ de-selected. Windows doesn’t seem to count the font shortcuts the same way that a full font is. I have not seen the ‘You have over 1000 fonts installed, this may slow down Windows’ doing it this way.

I have over 2600 fonts installed and active with no problems with speed. Adobe apps spend more time loading preferences than enumerating fonts (which happens in less than a second) on my machine.

How does FontExplorer compare with Adobe Type Manager Deluxe4.1?

I have ATM Deluxe and it just does not work with OTF. Vista does not work with Type 1 fonts, so it is a lost cause for the SW junk bin.

Belatedly I noticed that Adobe killed ATM in 2005.

I emailed Linotype about Font Explorer X and they said they were working on a release version (but they didn’t give an ETA for it) and to keep checking their website…

The typograf program looks interesting. Thanks for your responses.
