4 gigs installed, but only three showing up in xp!

I am working with a file that is 1.3 gigs on the hard drive in native ps format.

I have four gigs of ram on the new asus quad processor board. PS3 flys very fast and I am pleased… but I want it faster! Of course saves are slow, but working if great!

Anyway, what is the max ram that windows xp pro will allow because my system tells me I only have 3 gigs of ram, not 4.

Also, is there a cap as to how much ram ps can use?

thanks

steve

Windows XP32 will only give a single program access to about 3 GB of memory. However, Windows continues to have access to the other 1 GB of memory that you have in the form of RAM, and it will use it for its own operations and for other programs, as well as using virtual memory as needed for any of the above. With 4 MB of RAM, you can comfortably tell Windows to use much more than the default 55% — try 90%, which will still leave lots of RAM for the OS and other apps (filters, bridge) even before paging to VM begins.
