I have used older versions of Photoshop over the years, but I am overwhelmed with my new version, CS 8. I have gone through the tutorials, but still do not understand how to load multiple images within one project. Do I have to use the photomerge feature? I am trying to piece together fabric images (from 4-12 separate images) into one .jpg for my fabric shop. I have tried the basic Microsoft Paint program using 4 different fabric .jpg images to create a ‘4 square’ effect but it does not look very professional.
Here is a link to an image similar to what I am trying to create: < http://equilter.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=7 9837&sid=93LKiA1zA7fZ2K6-28108330850.53>
I would like to be able to ‘merge’ anywhere from 4 to 12 different images into one image for my shop. I feel like I am missing something horribly basic and I’ve been searching on-line for days. I have tried ‘photomerge’ but I was only able to achieve a 4-square effect. Is this a plug-in?
Thank you for any and all help!

It’s called compositing. This has nothing to do with photomerge, though a photomerged image is a kind of composite. One way:

Open two images. Using the Move tool (that cross in the upper right of the tool box) drag the image from one window to the other one. It will come in on its own layer. Then close the image you dragged FROM, but leave the image you dragged TO open.

You may do this with as many images as you like, reposition them, cut them up, blend them, etc. You’ll have to look into Masking as well, as it will be very useful in this kind of work.

You might be best off staring with a large blank document that is bigger than the elements you plan to put into it. There are lots of ways to do this.

Before I forget. After you have moved one image into the other Save as .psd, NOT .jpg. You will want to keep the file layered until you are done, so you can manipulate things in relation each other, And Save periodically.

When you are done yo um,ayt Save As a jpg or whatever file you choose, but also save your layered copy in case you want to come back to it and make changes.

And keep an eye on the Layers palette. It can be extremely useful.

Just a hint on terminology – an "application" is a program (like Photoshop) what you meant was "How do I put multiple .jpg images within one document (or file)?"

A good message heading will always get the best help.
