For anybody else who may come across this, the solution was very puzzling. I have a Promise RAID card which was running the most recent driver (released in 2007). No problems with the RAID array or any programs other than PS. I bumped the RAID driver back to an older version, released in 2005. This allowed PS to work properly.

Adobe tech support said that they’ve seen a few cases where RAID drivers conflict with the registration program. Doesn’t make much sense to me, but there you have it…

Doesn’t make much sense to me…

Don’t worry, a lot of recent "features" in Photoshop don’t make much sense!

look at the list of programs that CS3 asks you to close before updating on a PC for example…. Yahoo messenger, Firefox, IE…. it seems to want the net connection all to it’s self.

Thomas,

I’m running into the exact same problem. I’m installing CS3 on a RAID 1 drive. I have ATI SB600 RAID drivers. I’m still waiting for Adobe Tech Support to respond to my ticket. Did Adobe Support direct you to the correct driver version, did you divine this yourself, or some other inspiration? I’m limited on the driver versions I have access to on the chipset website (Asus).

Thanks for the info.

Hey Joe,

Basically, I just picked the next most current driver available since the one I had was the newest one. You’ll probably want to make sure the driver was certified by Microsoft WHQL.

I get the impression that the RAID problem isn’t fully understood by Adobe, but some drivers may cause your array to appear as separate drives to the registration program, which "confuses it" – quote from Adobe tech support =)

Good luck!

Thank you Dave & Joe…I was coming back to add that information, but you’ve already done so. I got the patch by going to the downloads section for Acrobat and installing the Licensing Patch.

Thanks again!
