It seems to work just fine now.
At least I can save things again.
And I noticed the Adobe Photoshop compatibility screen comes up when I save.
I’m changing that back to always hoping that particular preference setting wasn’t the cause of this whole thing.
Too bad I lost my photo, or it went back to the way it was before I started. It was starting to look good.
Jay,
We have all been there ;(
Compatability is in Preferences, ctrl + K under File Handling. If you are unlikley to ever use earlier versions of PS, switch it off (set it to never) This also makes for smaller file sizes. If the problem resurfaces you have your reason for the earlier troubles.
You cannot plan for a corrupt preferences file, or even know what corrupts it, but you could save your image more regularly, that way you would discover the problem earlier.
Put those instructions away for a rainy day and when strange things start to happen again, you will know what to do. It’s amazing the different problems those files can cause when they have a sulk on.
Stay safe.

Thanks a lot. . . a lot.
J
You’re welcome, but did it work?

As I said, it’s a timing thing.
The file can be found in C:\Documents and
Settings\"username"\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings\Adobe PS CS? prefs.psp.
If you use this method, don’t delete the file, just move it to another folder or rename it (change the extension, this will have the same effect) Then at least you will be able to put back/rename it again if you have to. . If this doesn’t solve your problem, you can try doing the same with each of the psp files in turn until PS works as it should.
