Cryzstof,

Basically you can’t. Clipping paths by their very nature are hard-edged, whereas blurs of any sort are soft-edged.

What are you using the images for – web or print? If print what application are you placing the image in?

Thanks for the information.

I wanted to place an image with a gaussian blur over a background colour in PageMaker seven. I had done something similar to this using a shdow, but the background colour was white. Of course, it was not a problem.

thanks

Unfortunately, Pagemaker does not support transparency, nor shadows/blurred, soft edges. The best workaround is to design the entire page (sans text) as an image file and place that as the background of the page.

InDesign does support transparency as well as native Photoshop PSD files with layers. If you do this sort of job often, it might be worth your while to upgrade.

Solution

I did manage to think of a way. Since the work in question is two colour, I took my gaussian, converted it to a bitmap at 2400 dpi, 150 lpi, using an elliptical dot. This image floats over the second colour. Also, it is backed by a smaller white panel that stops before the blur density gets thin.

It works well. Thank you all for your thoughts.
