I am using CS2. After loading on a new laptop with Vista with special help from Adobe because my previous version was 5.0, I get the following message when I attempt to boot the program. "you are not allowed to continue because your account does not have the proper privileges. Please log in using an account with the adiministrative privileges and try again." I called Adobe and there is apparently something that has to be reset in Vista and was told that it would cost me. It appears that it would probably be cheaper to upgrade to cs3 for another $300 and to get this free support rather than pay for this solution. Does anybody know what I have to tweak in Vista to get the priviledge of opening a program that I own.

Thanks

Have you done a Photoshop knowledge base search for privileges? You should find a document showing the needed privileges settings for CS2. The settings are for an XP install, so you will need to figure out if there are any changes when using Vista.

All that being said, what I would try first would be to run Photoshop from a user account set to Administrator privileges and with UAC turned off.

Any Vista CS2 users have comments on these approaches, or other suggestions? (I don’t use Vista, but others have successfully run CS2 under it. Adobe doesn’t "support" CS2 under Vista, so the free installation help that would be available for CS3 isn’t available; that’s why it will cost a lot for Adobe to stumble through this with you.)

Hi Michael,
Finally got somebody to help me at Adobe. For others that may have the same problem, here is the fix.

Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Services
Adobe LM Services

On this screen, simply change the "startup type" from ‘manual’ to ‘automatic’. Make sure that under "service status" ‘start’ is clicked.
Thanks for your help
