Stroking Paths: can I choose where "simulate pressure" begins a stroke?

When stroking a closed path with the "simulate pressure" option, the stroke always seems to begin (i.e. is narrowest) at the first node that was placed. I want to know if there is any way to make the stroke begin at a different node of my choosing after the path has been created.
Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.
Thanks,
Mark
