Hey guys i have two questions, everything i know i taught myself on photoshop 7 so please bear with me…Ok i made a camoflage layer and would like to be able to use it again as a color or pattern overlay how do i go about saving it for that purpose? also if i wanted to use the camo and make it look like it is really on my object (car, tank etc.) is there any way to make it look more realistic than using just threshold on the object and adjusting the opacity of the overlay?

Here’s but one way to approach this.

1) Take your camo image, and make a pattern from it. Go to Edit, Define Pattern, and name it. This will save your pattern.

2) Go to a new image, say a car, and create a new layer. Go to Edit, Fill. Under Contents, choose Pattern. A drop down menu will appear, choose the pattern you just created.

3) Change the blending mode as needed (I chose Hard Light).

4) You’ll probably have to do some masking on the camo layer to allow the appropriate parts to show through.

Example:

Source image for pattern:

Car:

With camo layer:

Remember that if you go this route, it’s best to prepare your pattern source image for patterning; this means creating it in a way that has little or no seams.
