I have seen references that imply CS3 "Calls Home" at intervals. I would take this to mean it contacts Adobe via the internet. If so, why? Is it simply to check for updates? Or is it verifying that my serial number still matches the one on file with Adobe? Or just to call and say "Hi!"?

My reason for wondering is that I mostly use CS3 on my laptop, which is seldom connected to the internet. Assuming CS3 does indeed "Call Home", is there a potential problem if it doesn’t report in for a long period of time?

Thanks in advance for any useful information.

I thought I was paranoid.
CS3, and the Adobe reader, check for updates, of which there have been several.
Adobe has gotten bad but not as bad as Microsoft.
Microsoft checks for validation if you go the Windows update site but if you are signed up for updates pushes them to you.
