I ma looking for a plug-in that will create a translucent mirror image under an object as if it was sitting on a glass table.

any recommendations? or instructions to create manually?

I would add to that reflection tutorial to try different layer modes on the reflection layer. Depending on color differences a different mode may enhance the effect. The best modes are usually multiply, overlay, and soft light.
