For Windows-users, I think, by default, contextual menus appear with a right-click. I dunno if there’s a keyboard shorty to bring the contextual menus up.

For Maccers, it’s Control + Click. I have that shortcut assigned to a scroll wheel click on my Logitech multi-button mouse. No keyboard shortcut to make them display.

Oh, and BTW….when you have a text layer highlighted in the Layers Palette, you don’t need to even select the text to change many of its attributes. Just futz with the various parameters in the Options Bar or Character Palette.

There isn’t one, which I find very frustrating. I have my Windows keyboard remapped to be like a Mac, but there’s no way I can find to get the Control key context menu function.

There is a Menu key on a lot of Windows keyboards on the right (?) side, but it doesn’t work in Photoshop.

Sorry for the confusion – I don’t mean a right-click context menu.

I mean the menu directly below "File, Edit, Image" etc.

How can I access that with the keyboard?

Do you mean the Options Bar?

Window > Options

You can always allocate a keyboard shortcut of your choice.

Yes, the Options bar.

When I assign a keyboard shortcut to Window > Options it just shows/hides it.

How do I cycle through the options in the Options bar with the keyboard without using the mouse?

To a limited extent with TAB but, with Graphic UIs, you can’t expect to do everything with the keyboard!

SHIFT-F10 not doing anything here.

Ryan,

I know a shortcut trick for getting access to the font family, font style, font size, and anti-aliasing input boxes while the text tool is selected.

Type your text; press the numeric keyboard enter key; press the standard key board enter key. This will place focus on the font family input box. Use arrow keys or start typing desired font family name. Press Tab key to jump forward one field…Shift Tab will jump back one field.

Don’t hit enter while in these fields as you’ll lose focus. If you do, you’ll need to press the numeric keyboard enter key again.

When you are finished, press Control T to place focus back on the text tool. You’ll need to do this to get commit/cancel type option.

For more options, you would need to use the Character palette. If you click in one of the Character palette fields, you can use the same shortcuts to cycle through the palette.

Ed gave you the shortcut to navigate the Menu bar with the type tool selected. Look at the word File in the menu bar when you hit Shift F10. Use the Underlined letters to navigate. So, Shift F10<W<C<C Enter will open the character palette.

Easier still, make a keyboard shortcut to call up the character palette.

Okay. Doesn’t work on my machine, but I would never use that anyway. I may have an Action assigned ot that.

You do know that on Windows machines you can navigate all the main menus by holding sown Alt and using the first letter of each menu…Alt-F gives you File, Alt-E is Edit, etc. Some people do that a lot. I rarely do.

That doesn’t help in the Options Bar, which is where we are now.
