Wants Me to Install Adobe Digital Editions

I have a number of PDF documents that when I click on them are displayed by Adobe Reader. However, in the case of one document, it asks me to install Adobe Digital Editions and doesn’t display the document. (I don’t want to install anything.) How can I read this document?

Adobe Digital Editions is free, under 3 MB, and takes all of two minutes to install.

What’s the problem?
