I seem to recall that Vista will no let you delete the system fonts. I wouldn’t delete them, just move them to a temp directory.

Yeah, Vista won’t let me delete the system fonts, which is good. Protect me from myself. Anyway, I think that was the culprit. After I pruned down my fonts from 3,600 to under 800, it seems to have fixed both PS and AI. I still plan on getting my fonts down to under 500, but need to find a good font manager, anyone have a recommendationn?

I should add, I’m not sure whether it was the number of fonts, or if I had a bad font file in there somewhere. Adobe seemed to think it was the number. Vista doesn’t like more than 500.

I looked at the Linotype page for Windoze… they have "completed Beta" but are not yet ready for people to download the free production version

I’ve bookmarked the page and will check back once in awhile

I have 3200+ fonts installed through Vista, I keep my fonts on their own partition, I deselect ‘Copy Fonts’. Vista doesn’t seem to mind that many done this way.

For what it’s worth, I set my default printer to "Fax" (lacking a local printer to set as local), and CS3 is file opening is unbelievably fast again.

Both correct: Aero on; local default printer.

BTW you don’t need a physical printer – an installed driver set as default is enough.
