I have had to switch motherboards due to a hardware issue (shorted out the USB port). I have the same disk drives and have not reinstalled anything, yet I am being asked to use up activations of PS CS3 and Acrobat Standard 8. Although I don’t have either software on any other machines, I am reluctant to do this, as I may get a more powerful notebook computer at some point in the future. Is there a fix for this?

Just do it and worry about the next machine when the time comes. The activation counter resets from time to time to allow for such things as fried motherboard and toasted harddrives.

Bob,

Ah, many thanks. Since you’ve been kind enough to respond, I will briefly expand on this story:

Don’t EVER let an aggressive cleaning person with a strong vacuum cleaner around your floor-standing tower computer. It sucks! (And yes, that is what really happened. She sucked up the cords, yanked to free them, and pulled one of the USB cords sideways, which began a cascade of events that has so far cost me two weeks of downtime, nearly $1,000 in repairs, and still has my wireless network disabled.)

What brand of vacuum cleaner was that? And does "she" do government buildings too?

Sorry, but reactivating and ignoring the problem is NOT a solution. I just tried to activate and was told I had used up my activations. I have NOT. CS3 was resident on only one machine, and the machine is dead. There is NO customer support for this issue.

Since I run a website for Photoshop Actions (atncentral.com), I have heard about how highhanded Adobe is, but have never before experienced it.

I will give this about a half day for resolution, then will issue a rant on on website to end all rants.

yes there is. call them and tell them your machine died and ask them to reset your activation count.

just don’t do it here, unless you feel like talking to air. this is a user to user forum only. better to rant into an email and send it off to adobe corporate. or blog about it on your site.

Dave, there is no one at any customer support number listed on their website.

Did you use the number here?

As dave said, don’t rant in the user-to-user forums — we are all fellow-sufferers!
