I have a similar problem, only neither the "source" or "destination" option works for me. I outline the area I want to patch, move the outline, and as you observed, the original area takes on the look of the new one until the mouse button is released, then I get a blurred version of the original area instead of a patch. As I said, this happens trying it both ways. What’s wierder is that this function does work some of the time, but seemingly only when the patched area and source pixels are close to the same color. If the area to be patched is along an edge marked by significant color change, it doesn’t work. Or at least now it doesn’t work – I was able to do an "edge" patch for this image some time ago, but don’t remember how I did it.
