Hi all. First-time post here, mentioning a couple issues. I hope the devs read this.
1)
Why doesn’t setting a layer to Blending mode>whatever have the same results as painting on a layer using that same mode? (example: If you set a layer with a big white X painted on it to Linear Dodge, it should have the same effect as painting a big white X directly onto a flattened image, in Linear Dodge mode, right? Well, it doesn’t. At all.)
Here’s an example of an image in which I decided not to do a brightening effect over the text, because of the time it would waste (and layers it would add): <http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/6083/tempdl4.jpg> (on the top is a layer set to Linear Dodge mode, put over the text. On the bottom is the SAME THING, except painted directly onto a flattened image. Both should look the same, but they don’t)
Whatever the reason for this (I’m sure it’s a technical issue, not a design decision), SOMETHING should be done to get it fixed (even if it requires some kind of hacky emulation). I *desperately* need this working for what I do with layers. If I want to overlay a color-dodge effect over text, for instance, without having to Rasterize the text, guess what: I can’t, unless I flatten the image. If I create a color-dodge layer over the text, it looks like a generic brighten. The only alternative is to duplicate the layers I want to affect, mash them all into one, THEN do it… which is a NIGHTMARE if I want to come back and adjust an underlying layer.

2)
Filename copy.jpg
Why the word "copy"???? This drives me out of my skull. I save close to 100 images per month, and when I go to save, it’s always defaulting to putting the word "copy" in the filename. How many people have EVER, EVER specifically wanted a file saved with the word COPY in it? -5,000. In fact, -every_user_that_has_ever_used_Photoshop, all irritated by this. If you MUST have this automation for somebody who actually wants this, make a checkbox for it or something in the save dialog.
My 2 cents, which weigh heavily in my pocket. 🙂
