Hi,

Im having strange problems with Photoshop the last few days, they came out of nowhere.

I was working on a few images for an newsletter for a dutch company and saved those files in 2 PSD’s , both of them were around 500Kb in size, but i can’t open them anymore since a few days.
Everytime i try to open them Photoshop gives me the error that i don’t have enough RAM, after 2-3 tries photoshop crashes, giving me a mesage that "photoshop had to exit because bla bla" ( the typical crash error )
Now comes the strange thing, i can open them when using bridge, but that isn’t the option for me as i don’t like bridge.

Also, since 2 days Photoshop started crashing on a random basic. I first checked my PS prefences because of the RAM error, but Photoshop was allowed to use the default 940 MB of RAM ( I have 2 GB physical and 4GB virutal ).
I tried increasing this to 1,7 GB but that didn’t solved the problem.

As desperate as i was i simply removed PS together with all the remaining folders and registry files and reinstalled, succes ? No. The problem is still there.

My system specs:
Windows XP SP2 32Bit
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2,8Ghz
2048 MB RAM OCZ 667 Mhz Dual channel
Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS 320MB
Photoshop CS3 10.0.1

Any solution ?

Kind regards,

Yorick.

that ram error might be caused by scratch disk being full. how’s the space on the drive assigned in your preferences. that said, when weird things start happening "all of a sudden" in photoshop, often resetting the preferences will clear it up.

see the faq: <http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1>

Maybe if you would read you would understand. I reinstalled Photoshop and removed any accosiated folder, i already created a new prefences file by deleting the old one, no succes. And the scratch disks aren’t full, i have more than 150 GB of free space on both HD’s

Is it every file or just those two? Maybe something wrong with the files?

but that isn’t the option for me as i don’t like bridge.

Gee, couldn’t you put up with it long enough to deal with two files?

yes and no. It only complains about the RAM on those two files, but PS crashes on random basic with any type of file since yesterday, and now even without giving me a warning, it just closes itself within 1 mili second when i try to open/ create a file.

Have you tried disk clean up and defrag?

Well, yes and no.
I did a cleanup using CCleaner but that didn’t fixed it.

But i can’t understand why a defrag should fix it, since it only moves the files closer together.

Ok guys, thanks for the help but i solved it.
I googled the error code and found the solution and tested it to confirm it was working.

The fix was to change the default printer, i changed it from my physical printer to the "Microsoft XPS document printer" and that fixed the problem.

what about including that link that yoko john has to the adobe postscript driver?

This is my boilerplate:

This is a known bug and has been reported many times in the forum.

The solution, weird as it sounds, is to make a generic printer driver your default printer. If you don’t have one, download it here:
