Hi. I know this sounds dumb, and I am sure there is a very simple solution. However, I have tried everything that I have read on any topic that is remotely similar. I am very close to pulling my hair out!

The problem that I am having is that I can not make it change fonts. I have tried reseting the tool. I have checked all of my fonts. I have removed the program and reinstalled it. I am having no luck.

I would appreciate any advice or suggestions that anyone has for me to try. Thanks!!

What steps are you taking when PSCS3 "won’t change fonts"? Try the following examples and let us know what happens:

1. Use the text tool and click on the canvas. What font is listed on the options bar? Type a word. Hold Shift down and press Home to highlight the word. Click on the font dropdown box and pick a different font. What happens?

2. Commit the text from #1 by clicking the checkmark. Open the character and layer palettes. Click on the text layer in the layer palette and then use the font dropdown box in the character palette to pick a different font. What happens?

3. Double click on the icon for the text layer, which should select the text in the layer. Use the character palette font dropdown and pick a different font. What happens? Commit the change by clicking the checkmark in the options bar. What happens?

thanks for the suggestions.

sorry i didn’t give more detail as to what it actually does when i attempt to change the font.

have tried changing the font in all of the different places. once the text is highlighted and i use any of the drop down menus it will allow me to highlight a new font, but it will not change from the original font. the font it was stuck on was Porcelian downloaded from dafont.com. I went into my font folder and removed it, so photoshop substituted a similar font….and then became stuck on it.

I also trashed/reset the preferences, and now it is stuck on myraid pro.

thanks again for your help.

Does it do that on every text layer you make and in every document?

Yes, it does it in new layers and new documents.

Maybe reset Character. Go to the Character palette, from the fly-out menu choose "Reset Character".

Maybe that is not reset with a general preferences reset.

I reset the character. It is still stuck on myriad pro. I tried changing the font type, and it will not change to any other type. However it will allow me to change the size and I can change from smooth to crisp, sharp and strong.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

It’s a puzzle to me. I would have expected resetting Preferences to fix it.

Maybe try again?

Did you buy your copy of Photoshop from an authorised reseller?

Specifically, whom?

And does it have "Printed in Singapore" anywhere on the packaging or the disk?

I bought it from my school bookstore. No, I do not see "Printed in Singapore" anywhere on it.
