Hi How do you import or get a vector file into a photograph?? I have tried layers, and I set my photo as the background, but then when I open a vector file, that background file disappears. Also, if I want to add a gradient to a vector file, can photoshop CS2 do this? PLEASE HELP!! I am so frustrated!

Thanks!

Have you tried using the ‘File/Place’ command? Works for me, creates a ‘smart object’ on a new layer.

You would have to edit the original file to add the gradient to the linked file.

What do you need the gradient for?

You are correct in making the vector file into a new layer, but this layer will block the layers beneath it if it does not have any transparent areas, a mask or a blend mode other than normal.

You can add a vector mask to a vector layer. This mask can be a gradient. Is this what you mean?
