I just started doing hdr using 3 exposures an f stop either side of correct exposure but when I combine them I get lines separating the colors in the sky ie. dark blue band, lighter blue, violet, etc.

What is causing this and how to I "cure" it?

TIA,

Art Resnick

It’s hard to say what may be causing this. When you first combine your exposures into one 32-bit image, the initial result usually isn’t very good. You need to convert your image back to an 8-bit or a 16-bit image and tell Photoshop how to handle all the extra luminance information that is stored in the 32-bit file so that it is visible on screen.

I have created a Photoshop video tutorial about creating HDR images that I have linked to below. Feel free to check it out.
In the first part of the video, I use Photoshop’s HDR tools only. In the second part, I use the Photmatix plugin to create the final HDR image.

I hope this helps!

John,

I guess I’m a little confused. I tried to answer the question and I posted a link to an HDR tutorial.

Thanks,
Kurt

Well for one, I appreciate the link. Since this is a PS Forum and I am having a bit of a problem learning the HDR creation aspects of PS, your posted link was not only fitting and posted in the proper place but appreciated.

Kurt maybe you could choose a site that doesn’t have so many scantily clad women videos in the future. That was most likely the issue.
