I am getting a new Vista computer in a month. I do not have it now. I am using an older XP computer.

I originally bought PhotoShop 5.0. It installed fine on the XP system.

I have upgraded it every several years. I now have PhotoShop CS2.

When I install on the new Vista system, should I start with PhotoShop 5.0? Will it install OK? Then upgrade it?

Other suggestions?

Just have an earlier version CD available to pop in during installation to verify your entitlement to the upgrade.

Be aware that CS2 will probably work on Vista but it is not tested and supported on that OS.

I do not 100% understand. I do have the earlier version CD. But what CS2 file should I install? I have: Photoshop_CS2.exe which is a trial of CS2. Do I unlock it with the previous unlock code?

When you upgraded to CS2 did you do so with an upgrade CD?

That’s what you insert into the CD drive when the CS3 installer asks for qualifying product to verify.

To be quite clear, you don’t install anything other than CS2.

The CS2 installer looks for a previous version on your computer. If it doesn’t find one it will prompt you to insert the disk for a previous version. When it is satisfied it will prompt you to re-insert the CS2 disk. Of course you have to remove the other disk first!

Not CS3 John!

Yes, acknowledged.

I mis-read and thought Ed was trying to upgrade to CS3. Sorry for creating confusion.

In Ed’s case, it’s as you say, insert CS2 disk and then insert qualifying CD when prompted for verification (the version 7 or CS CD should be OK). No need to start by installing 5.0 first.

As you’ve also mentioned, there’s no guarantee for Ed that CS2 will run smoothly on Vista since Adobe doesn’t support that configuration – although many people are doing it successfully.

Is CS3 supported on Vista?

It’s the only version officially tested and supported by Adobe on Vista.
