Selecting layers

I used to be able to select a layer by clicking on the layer in the image. Now I have to click on it in the layers palette. How do I correct this.

I take it you checked Auto Select? You ahould tell the solution in case others need to know.

With the move tool selected, and auto select off, you can ctrl-click in the image to auto-select a layer.
