folks, you guys have been great in the past..I hope you can answer my question..

…and it does sound silly but since I do so many pics..it is starting to get to me..

When I do a "save as" on a jpeg, I usually add a few letters for sorting later on..what cs3 does is add .jpg to the save as line so I have to click on the line and delete the 4 characters..cs2 didn’t do this..

I have searched all over,..does anyone know how to just get the file name sans .jpg ?

Thanks
Ian.

Do you have "Hide extensions for known file types" checked in Explorer’s Folder Options > View?

Why do you want to have the extension hidden? Not that great an idea IMHO.

Yes I do….is it a glitch in cs3 ?

No, I don’t want the extentions hidden, I just
don’t want the extention in the box when I am doing a "save as" save…

I process 1000s of pics and having to backspace 4 strokes to get rid of .jpeg before I add a modifer is quite annoyiong after awhile…

I know it is picky but there should be a way around.

Thanks
Ian.

I think it’s a Windows thing. It’s always done that for me. Just type your file name in the box, wiping out the extension. It should be added in the save anyway.

Or, rather than backspacing, plunk your cursor down before the dot.

Like that suggestion about the cursor…never thought about that..forest / trees thing..

Thanks

Have you thought about using a batch action/automation to add those letters instead of doing it manually?

Good question.

My adjustments are pretty standard..only a few require a different treatment.

I upgraded from cs2 and I tried batch with that version…recording my changes but it wouldn’t work…perhaps it this has been changed..I will revist..would make my life a lot easier.

Thank you
Ian.

If you are adding the same text to each file you can copy the text of the first modification and then put the cursor in correct spot and paste for the others. If you have to sequence it, after pasting, type in whatever.

Thanks..

No, I have to do a slight colour balance but thanks for the suggestion.

I have a really great watermark package that I add text with.

You can record the action and when you run it, you can tell it how to name the file in various ways when saving. I haven’t explored those options as I’ve just saved the same file name to a different folder, but you might want to check that out before killing you fingers making relatively minor changes to a thousand files.
