I reposted this question here: <http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef7f2cb.59b532b5>

I think this subforum is the better place.

I doubt it’s possible. Possibly could be scripted.

Couldn’t you record an Action using Save For Web to an optimized file size in the SFW Optimize Menu?

Ok, if this forum is prefered… 😉

SFW Optimize Menu … hmm… ahhhh this tiny arrow there? Cool, I see this Menu to the first time. Maybe this is recordable into a action. I will give it a try.

As I understand this option, it chances the pixel-size of the picture until it fits the file size limit. Right? Or does it change the quality, too?

It only changes the JPEG compression (quality). If you have a pixel size target, you can record that as well. Congrats on finding the menu, it is pretty hidden. 😉

Wait. Now that I’m thinking about it… there might be a problem doing it this way. I can’t remember if it is the target file size, or the JPEG quality number that is recorded in the Action. If it the compression number, this method will not be consistent. I’m not at my PS computer to check right now.

AFAIR, the ‘optimize to file size’ function is not recordable…

Yeah, I just checked. An Action records the compression amount that the Optimize File Size chooses, not the target file size. Sorry for bad info.
Script, maybe.

I don’t have a glue on scripting for PS.

Is here someone who can write something like that?

It’s Ok if the target-size is hard coded. I think I can modify a given script. But writing one from the scratch… don’t think so.

I’ve never used this (first hit on a quick Google search) , but an inexpensive plugin might do what Photoshop should be able to do.

Ok, I think I’ve found something.

But how can I run a *.jsx file?
I do not know this type of file.

I think you’d have much better luck with scriptning questions in the Photoshop Scripting Forum <http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?13@@.3bbf2765>.
