I googled for my problem and found out that it is very common but didn’t find any solution. There is none…? I am not able to start trial period of PS CS3, freshly downloaded and installed on clean Vista x64. It used to work but I reinstalled OS after SP1 and no success since. After clicking on ‘I want to try for 30 days’ I’m getting ‘A problem was encountered while trying to load the trial period for Adobe Photoshop CS3’. If it is not supposed to work, why they are offering tryout download? I don’t get it.

Are you saying you used the trial already on that machine? If so, that’s it…you get to use it for 30 days and that’s it. After that you’ll need to buy it to use it again.

I understand it ofc. But I completely reinstalled system because of Vista SP1 release and I wanted to finish trial (well, technically get a new one but hey, who would reinstall OS every month to get free PS, right? :-). I searched for this problem and it looks it is very common and unresolved.

It’s not a problem unless you’re looking to use Photoshop for free. It’s a security measure to make sure you can’t.

you’d need to do a low level drive format before reinstalling the system to get the trial to work again.

that’s the catch they made when they allowed a full function (print and save enabled) trial version available a few versions back.

who would reinstall OS every month to get free PS, right? 🙂

I know you said that jokingly, but since ps is between $625 and $975 (standard vs extended) i’d say quite a few people would happily take a couple hours a month to reinstall a system if they could get photoshop for free.

Dave> Well, I upgraded my computer and installed PS on completely new harddrive which I bought. That’s why I think it deserves some attention. This < http://www.google.com/search?q=A%20problem%20was%20encounter ed%20while%20trying%20to%20load%20the%20trial%20period%20for %20Adobe%20Photoshop%20CS3&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8> proves I am not the only one, not at all.

Robert> If I would like to use PS for free I would steal it, don’t you think?

Aaaah, but did you do a low-level format on the system drive and re-install the OS?

of course not. adobe has made what you’re doing illegal in order to allow full use of the trial for 30 days. prior to that (i believe vers. 7 changed this), you could use the trial as long as you wanted but you couldn’t save, print or copy to clipboard.

Dave> What? Illegal? What are you talking about? I am reporting problem with application and soon I will be called thief or what. This new witch hunting has gone too far. Why everyone expects other ppl are pirates? And why do you even care? If I would be pirate I would be happily running cracked version and not trying to solve a problem with trial. I am spending quite a lot of money for sw and that’s why I want a trial first.:-( I reinstalled even before end of last trial but it doesn’t matter.

Josh> Yes, I formated the old drive (I am running different OS there now) and installed new on new drive. Ofc I didn’t do a low level format (it is not used since 486 ;-).

Dave> What? Illegal? What are you talking about?

calm down and read what i wrote again. they "disallowed" repeat installs when they made the trial allow in 30 days.

Again with the Josh.

J.J….what do you suppose the all-too-common misuse of "Josh" means?

Mere inattentiveness? Or something more….sinister!?

Beelzebub, and Steve Ballmer need to know!

XD XD

dave> srry, I just..You know, every time you’ve got some problem everyone’s asking if you’ve got legal version like if everyone steals. It makes sense from companies to ask for SN to identify but users are often doing same, without reason.

John> srry, I am usually careful with other’s ppl names but it was probably how I’ve seen everything red in the moment. And I’ve really seen Josh, shame on me..*blushing*

OK, so is there any way how to run 30days trial in my case, please? Anyone knows?

as i said in my 1st post, the only way to get the trial back is a low level format and os reinstall (and as john added – of the SYSTEM drive). apparently (and arrogantly) adobe installs part of it’s protection scheme in an undocumented part of the boot sector.

btw, same holds true for activation scheme of the full version. they do this undocumented write that triggers deactivation if you try to do a restore from a system that doesn’t capture that sector.

triggers deactivation if you try to do a restore from a system that doesn’t capture that sector

FYI – I use a product to create a full picture of my drive, to an external USB drive, which captures EVERYTHING

<http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-dos.htm> <http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm>

The dos version is small enough to run from a 3.5" boot disk

Use the linux version if you have a USB keyboard

so you’re able to run a restore from that and not have activation issues?

a couple guys here have had luck with other products (i’ve never heard of terabyte unlimited) when they capture everything.

Image (dos or linux) reads EVERYTHING on a hard drive, since it works by going directly to the hardware controller

I have restored an image to a drive when I’ve had problems with a new/test program, and I have also used it to clone everything to a new boot drive (I use drive swap hardware, so have a couple boot drives and three data drives)

Go to the web site and do some reading

Today I tried to disconnect old HDD (which ‘remembers’ trial activation) and it didn’t help. So if this about ‘evil’ sector is true, it moved to new HDD already and fulfilled virus characteristic. If it’s true, Adobe’s arrogance is disgusting but hey, why I am surprised in age of all thoses StarForces and Sony rootkits? Shame on every developer/studio which spoils their product with something like this, to make users life difficult and who is happy and without troubles? Who pirated and cracked it away. This world is upside-down..:-( I am frustrated now enough to live without it, at least for some time. In the end I will have to go back and buy the license and they know it. Sickening…
