Preserving rotation and/or orientation data

The Canon 10D preserves whether a photo is taken vertically or horizontally. However, when I perform a photoshop action on the original files, this field is removed and the EXIF data for rotation changes to "none" when it used to say "90 degrees" on the original. Consequently, I cannot use automatic software to rotate images after a photoshop action. How do I get photoshop to NOT change this EXIF data or how do I recreate it on the changed files? I have ACDSee and Breezebrowser.
