I just finished a huge 20 hours project in Photoshop . I don`t save my files after I`ve finished working with them . I named my project 15.05.08 and I didn`t check if everything was OK . A few minutes later I wanted to open it but to my big surprise there were no Photoshop file . There was only a thing that says it`s type is file but I can`t open it in Photoshop . When I try to open it it says " Couldn`t complete your request because it is not the right kind of document . Is it possible to open it somehow ? Please help me I have to give the project over tomorrow and there is no time to start over .
Sorry for my English .
I really hope someone can help me .

Try renaming the file with .psd after the name (dot psd) but with NO other dots in the name, for example

project.psd

Well I tried . I saved another file before the big project and named it also with a date . After I realized I can`t open my big file I paniced and tried to open it no matter what . So I rigt clicked on my file and changed the opening program to photoshop . It didn`t help . After a few minutes I realized I could just have renamed it and put .psd after the name . So I first tried it with the smaller project and it worked . But nothing cahnged after I tried to do the same with the big project . I believe it`s because I had changed the opening program of the big but didn`t touch it on the small project . Is there another chance to open it ?

You could also use File > Open As, target the file, then set the type to Photoshop/PSD and see if that works; if not, try TIFF, etc., until you get it to open.

I would try Open As, and see if it’s a tiff, psd, or other format.

If the file’s not too big, put it up on a server and some of us can try to open it. Or email it to me mike – at – curvemeister.com

Meantime, put on a new pot of coffee and start doing the work over again. All of us wind up doing redos for one reason or another, and you’ll be surprised how fast it goes the second time.
