Photoshop CS3 Extended:
I want to do a simple thing – create a frame around my picture. The Help directions in the product are so ridiculous in that you cannot follow them. They tell you to look for Photo Frame which does NOT exist, then etc., etc. I’ve tried exploring Actions, reading all the help – the whole thing makes no sense.

Can anyone help?

You can create your own frame using different levels, fills, lines, shadows, bevels, etc. You can make quite good-looking "picture frames" that look like wood, metal or whatever you want. There are some good tools in Layer-Layer Style that allow you to select and apply several tools to create a fairly good-looking frame. Takes quite a bit of work …

You can also record your own actions so you can duplicate all those steps in the future.

A very simple way – probably too simple for your needs – is to use the rectangular shape tool (upper left corner of the toolbox) to define the area you want framed and then, with the selection still active, select Edit-Stroke. If you want a frame around the entire image, simply select Edit-Stroke without bothering with the rectangular tool.

I know Photoshop is’t brilliant but, by typing "frames" into the search box I immediately got this:

Make a photo frame You can make a photo frame by increasing the canvas size and filling it with a color.

You can also use one of the prerecorded actions to make a styled photo frame. It’s best to do this on a copy of your photo.

Open the Actions palette. Choose Window > Actions.
Choose Photo Frames from the Actions palette menu.
Choose one of the photo frame actions from the list.
Click the Play Action button.
The action plays, creating the frame around your photo.

It appears she was just ranting and did not really want any help since she never replied!
