I am unable to invoke the Revert command most (99.99%)of the time. It is greyed out in the File menu and pressing F12 does nothing. Is there some preference you need to set or is there some other trick to get it to work? Am using Win XP Pro SP3 but it did not work in SP2 either.

What are you expecting it to do?

John
Undo existing edits and return an image to its last saved state. It is also supposed to be saved as a History state when invoked.

OK that is what it does.

Try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.

<http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1>

You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.

This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.

A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

Thanks John. I’ll give it a try after writing down all my current settings in preferences – would prefer not to have do it all again from memory. If Revert works on the factory settings I will the add back my old settings one by one until it breaks again. With any luck it won’t!

You can save your current settings in case the reset doesn’t cure the problem. In CS3 they are in

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings

Nope. Did not work. Tried both methods for resetting factory defaults (Ctrl+Shift+Alt when starting Ps – yes, got the message asking me to confirm replacing settings, as well as simply renaming existing prefs .psp to .old and allowing Ps to generate a new prefs .psp). Yes, John, I did save a copy of my old prefs just in case.
Any other suggestions, John (or anyone else, please)?

Hold everything.
Just restored my old preferences (by changing the file extension from ".old" back to ".psp") and now Revert (from File menu and on F12 key) is working consistently on both greyscale and colour images. Can you beat that? This is a first in almost 2 years – it never really worked properly right from the 1st install of CS3. Hope I am not speaking too soon, although I have already tested the "fix" by closing and reopening Ps. Only a reboot left to do, but if that breaks anything it will be even more weird than the fix. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions John, even if they should not logically be responsible for the result. Only the result matters.
